Shogo: Mobile Armor Division is a first-person shooter that incorporates ideas from anime and the MechWarrior concept. On some levels, the player controls Sanjuro while he is on foot, infiltrating enemy buildings and fighting with handheld firearms. MS Copy all dll's Go to the shogo directory For me it's C: Program Files (x86) GOG Galaxy Games Shogo - Mobile Armor Division because I use GOG Galaxy then paste all the dll's there. Then, launch the game, go to display, select Lithtech D3D Renderer (d3d.ren) for displays select dqVoodoo Direct X Wrapper And set the resolution to 1920x1080x16.
Click 'OK' and start the game.Enjoy the game!Setting the FOV:If you want to set the horizontal FOV to another value than the automatically calculated one:1. Run the launcher and click on 'Advanced'2. Write „+FovX 'value'„ in the command line field (without the outer quotes).3. Make sure that 'Always pass these command-line parameters' is checked and click 'OK'.Known Problems:-The menu items dont scale. It is impossible to scale them because they are drawn directly to the screen, unlike the bitmaps. Thanks to Monolith and Gametoast.
I thought the game was kind of 'meh.' I really didn't like the way the mechs looked at all. I don't know. For some reason, there are very few mech designs out there that make me think, 'I really, really want to wreck a city with that thing!' Among my favorite mech designs:From Xenogears -Xenogears (The actual mech in the game, not the game itself)Weltall IDWeltall 1 and 2Alpha Weltall(More or less, I just listed every incarnation of Weltall. It's so damn cool.)From the Gundam Universe -The Wing Zero (Both it's original incarnation and the angelic Endless Waltz version)The X GundamThe gameplay was alright, but I thought it was just too rediculously easy.
I couldn't find a challenge in there at all.But my biggest complaint of all - the final boss. What happened to him? In every game I've ever played, he walks out of his hangar, and proceeds to stick himself into the wall right in front of him. From this position, he cannot hit you unless you stand right next to him, and he cannot move unless you get hit by him. This means, if you stay outside of a few meters, he is absolutely helpless.
I stood in one spot and pea-shot him to death. How absolutely pathetic. Ah, it seems to need the patch to really like WinME, but it works. The opening song is a lot of fun, tho' as a tribute to Macross specifically it seems a bit out of place. And being composed entirely of gameplay is rather lame. The models are pure uglyness. Oh well. The voice acting is pretty decent.
As good as or better than a lot of the english dubbed 80's mecha it takes itself from. The mech gameplay (pretty much what you get at the start) is fun enough, as odd as it feels in an FPS engine. Still, these are nice and fast humanoid mechs, not slow and lumbering in the least, so an FPS engine makes a decent fit, I suppose. Keeping the scale of the tiny people (who do a hell of a lot of damage!) is a nice touch.squish.Level design could use some work, though. I'm now aimlessly wandering the city just past that part in the tunnel where the other mech caves the cieling in, blocking passage. I got some clue from the badly-drawn beard guy, but it isn't exactly easy to figure out where to go. That's just poor. Man, Shogo brings back a lot of great memories.
My friends and I were so into it that we started our own clan with a web page and everything. I threw the old files up on my server if you want to take a look. My roommate did a bunch of sweet artwork for the site, and I did all of the html. Check it out: (my dude was Necron99 View image: /infopop/emoticons/iconsmile.gif ). This is over 3 years old now, and most of the email addresses are expired. Ah, memories.
View image: /infopop/emoticons/iconbiggrin.gifShogo was the game that started our local LAN party scene. We played this game almost exclusively every time, for about 12 hours at a stretch. A lot of the weapons were perfect, especially the squishy assault rifle and the Kato grenade launcher. The only bad one was the 'Banana gun' that shot the yellow bouncing things.Mech fighting was awesome because of the huge explosions (red riot anyone?) and cool particle effects, and the transformation to vehicle mode. Movement was extremely fast paced, about 1.5 times Q3 speed and 2 times CS speed. It's a shame that Monolith never fixed their net code, the game was basically unplayable on the net. The lowest ping that I ever had was about 250, and that's with cable.Nowadays we mostly play Starcraft and Counter-strike at LAN parties, but next time we might have to break Shogo out for old times sake.
I remember that Shogo was buggy as hell. I tried to play it once at a LAN party god knows how long ago and half the comps there either crashed or the graphics looked all messed up. IIRC, this was when Monolith was just launching the now infamouse LithTech engine with Shogo and Blood 2 and both were buggy pieces of crap. The LithTech engine is still a big piece of crap, even with high-resolution textures strapped onto it (No One Lives Forever, Aliens Vs. Predator 2), sure both are good games, but the engine is garbage. Gendou looks up from his cup of teaShogo has some issues with some NVidia cards in some configurations.Go to the forums and look for some of the fixes there. As for myself, my Geforce 1 SDR has no major problems whatsoever - I never had to install a patch. The netcode in Shogo is rather bad, but there are fixes out there. Because the sourcecode is available, there are non-official patches for almost everything under the sun.And FWIW, I love the Lithtech engine.
Shogo, NOLF and AVP2 are some of the best games I have ever played, and the engine is part of that. It has less to do with the character models than the way that those models move. There's a fluidity that other 'better' engines, such as the UT (my second favorite) and Q3 (least favorite) engine seem to lack.Zoiter: Nice artwork on that page!Gendou shrugs and pours himself a fresh cup of tea. I had the exact same issues. It ended up being the nVidia Detonators I was using. Going back from 23.11, 14.x 12.x, or whatever, back to the good ol' stable 6.50 and 6.67's cured all graphical glitches with the game. This'll prolly come in handy for other nVidia card owners who run into the dissapearing menus problem.Shogo ruled.
I only just beat it late last year. My original savegames when I bought it new were wiped out from a format&restore I did, and I never got back into after that. Then it was lost by my bro'in'law forever. Then he found it last year, and I beat it in a couple of days after figuring out the nVidia driver problem. When newer drivers break older games, something's wrong. AvP2 pisses me off too with it's nVidia Only mindset, but I don't see how people can install newer drivers, have older games break, and then blame the games. The drivers are crap. /rant-off.MP Shogo rules too.
All the levels feel small with tractor-beam turned on. View image: /infopop/emoticons/iconwink.gif.
Gawd I loved Shogo. The Bullgut was everything a massive amount of missles should be.It was truly the first time I felt as if I were in a cluster of Robotech launches. View image: /infopop/emoticons/iconbiggrin.gifI even tried to create a MOD for that game, somewhat similar to Squishie. I had a lot of popular support, but I couldn't get the programming support (as I didn't know how to) I needed. Too bad, Shogo:MADman would have been nifty.I reinstalled it a while ago, and loved it all over again. I especially loved the anime spoofs of Evangelion (the fake NERV posters) and whatnot.I hope some decides to eventually make a sequel to it, or at least a giant mecha game in the same vein. Shogo was a damn fun game, and was sorely underrated.
It's odd to think that if it had come out at any other time than it did, it might have done better. (Think about it, Shogo was up against the Q2 momentum, and the imminent release of Half-Life.)Single player had a fun story, (MAGICLAW!) and Multiplayer on a LAN ROCKED. Mech was the fave way to play Shogo on our self-built SCAD LAN at weston, and I still think the physics behind the Shogo grapple were awesome. Better than other mods and games. I first really envisioned the possibility of a FPS Spider-man game actually WORKING while playing Shogo as a squishie with the grapple. Fwipp!I have a HUGE soft spot in my heart over Shogo, even though I have no desire to play it again.
I gave a mint copy to the younger brother of a friend of mine when I went up for his wake a couple years ago, Even pinned the cool box on his wall, and then, when installed it, it wasn't the same 'spectacular' game I remembered.Oh well. Shogo still rocks.View image: /infopop/emoticons/iconsmile.gif. To relive the past. I had a Riva 128 graphics card, and some show stopping bugs made it hard for me to finish the game, I had to use a cheat to get past a certain level, where you had to get a ladies cat for her to drop the force fields or something. I did eventually finish it.My favorite part - in the first city, after you escape the ambush, you run into the same female pilot who's after you. I nailed her with a solid volley right before her voice over started.
So she died right after the hero said 'You again?' And the action resumed. Nothing like a little death served up cold. What ever happened with the showdown between the hero and his brother?
That was another one where the game messed up and I had to skip it.Gepzo.
